Treatment Description

Dandruff is the shedding of flaky, white-to-yellow pieces of skin from the scalp. You may notice white dandruff flakes on your shoulders or collar area. Dandruff is the result of a common skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis, which may be seen in people with eczema, psoriasis, fungus infections, or overactive oil glands, among other conditions. Dandruff is not contagious, but it can be hard to treat. It is more likely to affect men than women.

Why Dandruff occurs

The top layer of the skin is constantly being shed and renewed. This usually goes unnoticed when the cells are shed one at a time. Inflammation of the scalp may cause cells to stick together. When large clumps of cells are shed, visible flakes may be seen on the shoulders especially when wearing dark clothing or on the scalp as the hair traps the scaling skin.

Dandruff describes scaling of the skin on the scalp. Dandruff causes white flakes on the scalp. Medicated or anti-dandruff shampoos can help. Seborrhoeic dermatitis produces dandruff as well as scalp itch. Cradle cap in babies is a form of seborrhoeic dermatitis. Psoriasis can also cause inflamed, itchy, scaly plaques on the scalp.

 A Few Precautionary Measures:

Use The Right Shampoo:

Having clean hair is important to make sure that dandruff does not set in. There are vast arrays of great anti-dandruff shampoos that work wonders for that consult your dermatologist. It is best to choose something mild unless your case is severe. Dead cells need to be prevented from accumulating and the best way to do this is to keep your hair and scalp immaculately clean.

Applying hair oil on a scalp, which is already infected with dandruff intensifies the process of hair fall. When hair oil remains on the hair for a long time, it loses its shine and turns dull. So, it is important to avoid applying hair oil on your scalp if you are struggling with dandruff.
